The best ticket for you depends on how often you travel and your own, personal preferences.
The OV-chipkaart is a payment method for public transport in the Netherlands. With the OV-chipkaart, you can check in and out on buses, trains, trams and the metro. It does not matter where you purchased the OV-chipkaart. There are several types of OV-chipkaart, fares and season tickets. Make sure your card has sufficient credit to pay for your journey.
Do you travel often by public transport? And would you like to travel using a season ticket or at a discount? Then you should choose a personal OV-chipkaart. The card costs € 7.50 and is valid for 5 years.
The anonymous OV-chipkaart is for travelers who only wish to travel ‘prepaid’ (without a season ticket or age discount, for example). It may be more convenient to choose this card if you wish to lend out your OV-chipkaart. The suggested retail price of an anonymous OV-chipkaart is €7.50 and the card is valid for 4 to 5 years.
Can be purchased at any train station and other points of sale (supermarkets, tobacconists, etc.)

With the OV-chipkaart you pay per kilometer traveled. A basic fare of € 0.89 per trip is charged. If you transfer within 35 minutes of checking out, you will not be charged the basic fare again. The card keeps track of how many kilometers you travel and calculates the cost. When you check out, the card-reader screen displays the total journey cost.
Calculation of travel costs:
price per kilometer in Brabant, € 0,151
+ basic fare of € 0,89

When you check in, a boarding fare will be debited from your card. In Brabant this is € 4.00*. When you check out, the boarding fare is refunded. You are charged for the number of kilometers you traveled plus the basic fare. When the balance on your card is insufficient, you will not be able to check in. You must first top up your balance.
*A higher boarding fare of € 8.00 applies to travel on lines 90, 157, 300, 301, 302, 305, 306, 310, 311, 312, 316, 325, 326, 327, 400, 401 and 402.
